About Emily
Emily Michalik qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist in 1994 with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology in the United States. Her training and subsequent practice have been integrative, with particular emphasis on person-centred, psychodynamic, existential, and Gestalt therapies. Since her initial training, she has undertaken additional clinical training and qualification in trauma-informed therapies, working with couples, and supervision. She received a diploma in clinical supervision from CPPD in London.
Her clinical experience since her qualification has included work in private hospitals, public mental health agencies, private practices, charities, employee assistance programmes, corporate training and consulting firms, and solo private practice. Beyond her counselling qualification, she holds postgraduate training in public and global health (in the US) and theology (Oxford University).
Her professional interests include the public and global health dimensions of mental health care, the intersection between spirituality and mental health, and building upon the strengths of clients to achieve the best possible outcomes for counselling interventions. Her practice offers support for adults as individuals, couples, and family units and ranges from short-term support for solution-focused work through to longer-term therapy for clients wishing to engage more deeply in their relationships and emotions.
Whether addressing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or understanding and living with neurodivergence, Emily sees the counselling relationship as a collaboration between herself and her clients. Goal setting and reviews of progress are undertaken regularly to ensure that the counselling remains focused on the needs of the client.
Emily uses the following approaches in her work: Existential , Psychodynamic, Person Centered, CBT, DBT, Mindfullness, Trauma informed approach, Family Therapy, Integrative Relationship Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Solution-Focused, Gestalt
She is a registered psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with the BACP and ACC in the UK, and has been a licensed clinical professional counsellor in the United States. In her free time, Emily enjoys travel in the UK and abroad, walking the South West Coast Path, skiing, anything to do with the ocean, and hiking in the mountains of the northwest United States.
